Union members in Georgetown will vote next week on a contract that could lead to the reopening of the Arcelor-Mittal steel plant.
The company suspended operations at the plant last July, saying the recession had caused a significant drop in demand for steel. Union president James Sanderson says members will vote on a re-negotiated contract Wednesday.
If the vote passes, Sanderson says the plant could reopen very soon.
A company spokesman says the facility will remain closed unless market conditions improve or the plant is put on a more competitive footing.
