The Atlantic hurricane season starts Tuesday, and it's expected to be active.

Governor Mark Sanford and state emergency preparedness personnel will hold a press conference Tuesday on what the state has done to plan for this year's season.

It's set for 10 a.m. in Conway. We'll have coverage of that on NewsChannel 15 at 6 and here on CarolinaLive.com.

Also Tuesday, the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee will have speakers including First Alert Chief Meteorologist Ed Piotrowski on hand to talk about hurricane season preparations.

The public is invited to attend the meeting Tuesday at 2 p.m. At Fire Station No. 6 on 38th Avenue North.

Guest speakers are Ed, Myrtle Beach Police Chief Warren Gall and Risk Manager Val Rosser.

Everyone is invited to attend to learn about hurricane forecasts, effects, preparations, evacuation routes, pets, and more.
