The family of Marion man shot and killed by a Florence County sheriff's deputy wants the US Justice Department to investigate.

Monday, the family, along with Action 7's Raymond Johnson, held a news conference on the steps of the Florence City-County Complex.

Last Friday morning, a deputy shot and killed Deangelo Foxworth at Seeker's Nightclub in Florence.

Deputies say the deputy had no other choice but to shoot Foxworth when he refused to drop his weapon as the deputy ordered.

Action 7's Raymond Johnson told NewsChannel 15, "All we asking is for justice, and we want the Justice Department to come in. And Tuesday morning, I'm going to be down at the FBI office and ask them to come and do a thorough investigation."

The Florence County Sheriff's Office issued this statement:

"We regret the loss to the Foxworth family, and out thoughts and prayers are with them, the Seekers employee who was seriously wounded and is recovering from his gunshot wounds, as well as our deputy," Sheriff Kenney Boone stated. "Unlike those who would exploit this tragedy to further a personal or political agenda however, we will have no comment on the Friday morning shooting at Seekers Club until SLED has completed its investigation. In the interim, we will continue to do our best to protect and serve the citizens of Florence County over the Memorial Day Holiday and thereafter."

Florence County Sheriff's Office is fully cooperating with the SLED investigation into the May 28, 2010 shooting at Seekers Club on South Irby Street, and looks forward to its findings and conclusions.
