Television icon Art Linkletter has died. At one time Linkletter was part of a group trying to bring a family theme park to Horry County.

Linkletter died Wednesday at his home in California.

He hosted the popular TV shows "People are Funny" and "House Party" in the 1950's and 1960's.

Linkletter was on the Grand Strand in 2006 trying to build support for a Dreamatarium, a 300-room suite hotel, and an indoor water park he'd proposed three years before in Horry County.

The project never happened.

Art Linkletter was 97.
