COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Two developers plan a subdivision in South Carolina where bicycles will be the only form of wheeled transportation.

The State newspaper reported Tuesday the development is planned to start with 10 homes near Gaston in Lexington County, about 15 miles south of Columbia.

The neighborhood would have no asphalt, just several miles of bike trails. It would include fishing ponds and environmentally friendly homes.

Owners would be encouraged to use solar and wind power.

The first homes would range from 800 to 1,600 square feet and cost about $200,000. Construction could start this fall.

Residents and visitors would have to park their cars outside the community and bike or walk to their homes.

Cincinnati developer Joe Mellett says the community could become an eco-tourism destination.
