Memorial Day weekend is just a week away, and one of our nation's favorite pastimes is grilling.

Myrtle Beach firefighters want to make sure you grill safely - so they held a demonstration outside the Piggly Wiggly at the Market Common in Myrtle Beach Friday.

The month of May is also National Barbeque Month, so firefighters reminded shoppers to grill at least 10 feet away from their homes and to keep a fire extinguisher nearby.

They grilled up some food for shoppers.

"Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and drinks. They're coming up, everything is free and what we're doing is providing public education and fire safety decisions," said Christian Sliker with the Myrtle Beach Fire Department.

The Piggly Wiggly at the Market Common sponsored the event.
