COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- State Rep. Nikki Haley's campaign for governor of South Carolina is airing its first ads, and her opponents says she's already taking a negative tone.
The ads began airing statewide on Tuesday.
The Lexington lawmaker's ad opens with a picture of U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett's name and "bailouts;" followed by a picture of Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer and "stimulus spending," and then of Attorney General Henry McMaster with "career politicians."
It says South Carolina can do better and calls Haley a champion of conservative values.
Barrett campaign spokesman B.J. Boling said Haley is resorting to negative ads right out of the gate. McMaster spokesman Rob Godfrey said Republicans know attacks are no way to lead.
Haley spokesman Tim Pearson said the ads aren't that negative.
