Bill Nettles (Sanders & Nettles)
(AP) -- U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles says he's excited to start his new role as South Carolina's top federal prosecutor.
Nettles told The Associated Press on Monday he wants to focus on public corruption, financial fraud cases and environmental cases.
The criminal defense attorney was sworn in last week as South Carolina's U.S. attorney. He takes over for Kevin McDonald, who had been serving on an interim basis since Walt Wilkins stepped down in January.
Nettles is a graduate of The Citadel and Widener School of Law in Pennsylvania. He served as a public defender in Richland County for two years before going into private practice.
Nettles has been practicing with his father-in-law, former judge and Charleston School of Law founder Alex Sanders.
