Conway Police say a woman is being treated, after she was bound and held hostage Thursday morning in her home.
The woman is in the hospital, talking to police about what happened. She speaks Spanish and communication has been difficult. They do not have a suspect yet.
The woman managed to get away from her attacker and ran to a nearby hair salon. Nail tech Christine Causey was waiting for her next client at the His and Hers on Main Salon, when she heard someone pounding on the building's back door.
Causey opened it to find a woman whose wrists were bound in plastic cuffs. The woman spoke little English and Causey had a hard time figuring out what had happened to her. "She was real distraught so we got her to sit down and I called somebody to translate, so that's how I figured out most of what had happened to her and then the police arrived."
Through a translator, the woman told salon employees a man had broken into her apartment, held her at knifepoint and bound her hands and feet. She told them she managed to break her feet free and get away.
Salon employees called police and everybody else pitched in. "One of our clients had called Horry County. They had called. Everyone started helping out so, we never felt really unsafe. We were just scared for the person that was there," said Tiffany Hamilton, Co-owner, His & Hers Salon.
Police found no one else in the woman's apartment and the language barrier hampered the investigation. "We've got everything basically secured. We've got evidence technicians in there processing the scene and the victim is at the hospital being treated," said Sgt. Selena Mann, Conway Police.
The salon's owner says she's never heard of something this scary happening here on Conway's South Main Street in broad daylight. "We're usually a pretty safe little neighborhood and we have good businesses around us but these things happen."
Based on what the victim told detectives, police think there may have been a second victim, but they're not sure.
