GREER, S.C. (AP) -- A 64-year-old South Carolina grandmother who lived alone has died in a house fire.
Multiple media outlets reported that Rebecca Ann Allen of Greer died Wednesday. Her body was found on the couch. Greer Fire Chief Chris Harvey said passers-by attempted to get into her side of the duplex but were stopped by an explosion inside.
Harvey said firefighters also heard an explosion as the fire reached oxygen canisters.
Allen's daughter, Rhonda Godfrey of Greer, told The Greenville News her mother suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and emphysema.
She said she last spoke with her Tuesday night and took her meals daily.
Spartanburg County sheriff's spokesman Tony Ivey said the fire appears to be an accident.
Autopsy results are pending.
