Wednesday, Meteorologists with the National Weather Service surveyed the damage from strong storms that moved through Marlboro County Tuesday night.

The surveyors took pictures of downed trees on David Circle off of Highway 38 in Bennettsville.  The extent of the damage helps them calculate the range of wind speed.

Carl Morgan with the NWS says the damage wasn't caused by a tornado.  "All the damage that we see to the trees, to the roofs in the area is all uni-directional so at this point it just looks like just straight wind damage."

In nearby Clio, where high winds uprooted dozens of trees and destroyed a mechanics shop, they say a microburst was to blame.

The roof of the shop flew off and broke a telephone pole about 100 yards away.
