CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Using golf carts and goggles, students on the South Carolina coast are getting an idea of what happens when you drive drunk.

The High School Injury Prevention Coalition holds a demonstration Monday at Ashley Ridge High School near Charleston.

Students wear drunk goggles that simulate the impaired vision of a drunken driver. They then try to drive the golf cart through an obstacle course to see how difficult it is to drive.

They also try to throw and catch a ball while wearing the goggles.

The Injury Prevention Coalition is a program of the Charleston County Emergency Medical Service and the Medical University of South Carolina Trauma Center.
