CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A group of South Carolina college students are getting ready to take their final exam with running shoes, not No. 2 pencils.

Students in the College of Charleston's Sport Physiology and Marathon Training leave Friday for Nashville, Tenn., and the Music City Marathon that will serve as their final. Class professor Michael Flynn says 100 students expressed interest in the class but only 31 stayed with it.

The students who remained learned everything from physiology and sports nutrition to pacing and strategy. They trained both as a group and individually.

Flynn has no plans for another marathon class, but next year he will teach a beginning course where students compete in the 10 K Cooper River Bridge Run.
