The Murrells Inlet Rotary Club announces the "King of the Inlet Fishing Challenge" beginning at 6 a.m., Friday, June 4, and continuing on Saturday, June 5.

Eric Gray, event chair, said the traditional flounder tournament will be expanded to include a new near-shore King Mackerel division and a "Captains Choice" optional second day of fishing.

"This marks the 11th year our club is conducting a fishing tournament in Murrells Inlet," Gray said. "This event will raise funds for the benefit of local Rotary Club charitable projects," Gray said. "These include the Coastal Conservation Association and Rotary International worldwide effort to eradicate Polio."

Registration will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, June 3, and the same three-hour time span beginning at 4 p.m., Friday, June 4, at the Crazy Sister Marina, Highway 17 Business, Murrells Inlet.

The tournament awards presentation, raffle and live entertainment will be from 5 to 6 p.m., Saturday, June 5, at the Marina.

Following the ceremony at 6:30 p.m., Rotary is teaming with Murrells Inlet 2020 to bring the second annual Murrells Inlet Fish Drop. Approximately 500 wooden fish will be hoisted in the air then dropped on the ground on top of a bull's eye. The three fish closest to the bull's eye will qualify for cash prizes totaling $1,750.

"Throughout the day on Saturday, we plan fun activities along the Marsh Walk," Gray said. "Our signature event will be the 'Seven Card Stud Poker Crawl,' when participants can meander throughout the member restaurants pulling cards to see who draws the winning hand."

Tournament registration and captains meeting will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, June 3, and from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, June 4. The cost to enter the King Mackerel Division is $150 per boat per day fished. The Flounder Division is $50 per fisherman per day with the youth and lady anglers paying $25 each.

Tournament fishing is open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, June 4, with weigh-in open at 12 p.m., and Saturday, June 5, has a similar schedule with tournament fishing open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and with weigh-in beginning at noon.

In the King Mackerel division, the largest King Mackerel by weight will qualify for a first-place prize of $1,777. Second place is $977, third is $477 and fourth, fifth and sixth places earn $177 each. The lucky seventh place winner will receive $477.
