The South Carolina Student Legislature began its spring session Friday at Springmaid Beach Resort in Myrtle Beach.
The group has been around since 1956, and is a breeding ground for future lawmakers.
The organization says former SC Governor Robert McNair, former SCGOP party chair Van Hipp and former Secretary of State candidate Rick Wade all got their start in the student legislature.
The students come from colleges and universities throughout the state and meet twice a year to debate bills and further their knowledge about parliamentary procedure and state government.
