Horry County police released their report Wednesday on the deadly crash that resulted from a chase Tuesday.
It happened near Socastee after an officer tried to make a traffic stop.
State troopers say the 17-year-old driver passed the car ahead of him on McCormick Road, but slammed head-on into an SUV.
The passenger in the suspect's car, Lucero Sanchez Martinez, 14, of Myrtle Beach, died a short time later.
The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital.
The officer was not involved in the crash.
The 17-year-old driver, Miguel Angel Murello, was flown by helicopter to the hospital in Wilmington.
The report says Murello appeared to be putting something in his trunk, and when he saw the officer, he got back in the car and pulled away.
When the officer tried to pull over the car for not using a turn signal, Murello wouldn't stop.
The report says the chase lasted one minute.
The tape in the officer's dash camera ran out as the pursuit started.
