Coastal Carolina University broke ground on the new Student Recreation and Convocation Center Wednesday.
Work is finally set to begin on a long-sought arena at Coastal Carolina University.
Wednesday, student athletes and university officials broke ground on the new Student Recreation and Convocation Center.
When it's completed in November of 2011, the facility will seat more than 3,600 for basketball and volleyball games.
It will also provide students with better recreational facilities, something prospective students often ask to see when they visit the campus.
"This, we are going to be able to hold our head high and say let us show you the facility. from the exercise equipment, the climbing wall, the running tracks, that's just going to be a tremendous asset," David DeCenzo, CCU President, said.
The facility will more than triple the seating of Kimble Arena, which it replaces.
The building will cost between $25 million and $30 million.
