GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Six candidates for South Carolina's education superintendent offered different views on school choice and accountability during a debate at Furman University.
The Greenville News reported three Republicans, two Democrats and a Libertarian took part in the debate Tuesday night. State Education Superintendent Jim Rex is seeking the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
Former U.S. Deputy Education Superintendent Frank Holleman of Greenville faces South Carolina State dean Tom Thompson for the Democratic nomination.
The Republicans include Furman political science professor Brent Nelson, Newberry College President Nick Zais and Elizabeth Moffly, owner of a construction company and a seafood business in Mount Pleasant.
Columbia psychology teacher Timothy Moultrie is the only Libertarian in the race.
