(AP) -- South Carolina senators have advanced an economic incentives package that doesn't touch corporate income taxes.
The Senate Finance Committee on Tuesday sent to the floor a pared down version of a bill that initially eliminated corporate income taxes over 10 years.
The bill passed by the House last month would have phased out that 5 percent tax rate, starting in 2013. It is the third largest source of state revenue behind sales and individual income taxes.
It also called for immediate elimination of the tax for companies that move their headquarters to the state.
But a Senate Finance panel on Monday stripped out the corporate income tax breaks. The full committee did not put them back in.
Senators say the economy is too uncertain to further reduce state tax collections.
