Horry County Council is talking about the county budget this week, including possible salary cuts for county employees.
At their annual budget retreat in Little River, council members are looking at ways to make up for a budget shortfall.
Council members say they want to avoid laying off employees, but there may be salary reductions and service cuts.
This is also a reassessment year and with homeowners along the coast seeing their property values drop, people in other parts of the county may see higher taxes.
"There'll probably be some people in the western portion of the county that may see an increase in taxes, whereas people on the other side of the county may stay the same," Carl Schwartzkopf, Horry County Council, said.
Schwartzkopf says public safety will be a higher funding priority than things like parks and libraries.
The council has to pass a budget by the end of June.
