Acting United States Attorney Kevin F. McDonald announced Wednesday that a Federal Grand Jury in Columbia, South Carolina, returned an Indictment against Sean Francis Schaffner, age 41, of Indianapolis, Indiana, charging three counts of armed bank robbery and three counts of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.
The indictment alleges that Schaffner robbed the First Palmetto Savings Bank located at 1204 48th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach on September 18, 2009; the First Palmetto Savings Bank located at 10207 North Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach on February 25, 2010; and the Waccamaw Bank at 112 Waccamaw Medical Park Drive in Conway on March 12, 2010.
The maximum penalty the defendant could receive life imprisonment.
The case was investigated by the Horry County Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney A. Bradley Parham of the Florence Office.
Mr. McDonald stated that the charges in this Indictment are merely accusations and that the defendant charged is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
