The state's roller derby community came together Saturday to help one of its own with some expensive medical bills.
The Palmetto State Rollergirls hosted the "Derby for Herby" in North Myrtle Beach.
The event is meant to help one of their volunteers, Herb Newcomb. He recently underwent brain surgery for a rare infection.
Newcomb has no insurance, so the Rollergirls got together to raise some money.
"I'm just really happy about all the support of everybody else - all the people who came out, you know, to support somebody they didn't even know. I think that's great," said Herb Newcomb, the beneficiary of the event.
Organizers said the "Derby for Herby" raised around $3,000.
