SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina police say three people are charged with murder in the 2001 shooting death of a Spartanburg man whose body was found in a burning car in a neighboring county.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that 35-year-old Steven Lee McDowell turned himself in Saturday.
Deputies arrested McDowell's 34-year-old sister LaWanda Gonzalez and her husband, 36-year-old Gerald Elliseo Gonzalez, on Friday.
All three are awaiting a bail hearing. There was no information about whether they have attorneys.
They are charged with killing Michael Smith whose body was found in Greenville County. Smith died of a gunshot wound.
The sheriff's office said the arrests came after new information showed that Smith was killed in Spartanburg County.
