This week, NewsChannel 15 has taken calls from many of you who received a second census questionnaire, even after you mailed in your first form.
We called a few post offices in our area and they're questioning why census officials have sent them more forms to deliver.
Census officials say they're not trying to cheat or double count anyone, but they want to make sure you send in the form.
Evelyn Freeman took a second look when she opened her mailbox this week and realized she had received a second census form.
"I just threw it on the recliner and said the heck with this. Somebody's crazy," she told us.
Evelyn is frustrated because she filled out a census questionnaire and sent it back a few weeks ago.
She got so upset she called employees at the Darlington Post Office to see if a mistake had been made.
We called them too, and they had no idea what was happening, but told us it's their responsibility to deliver the second batch of forms.
Maxwell Biggs, manager of the Florence census office, says there's a perfectly good explanation for the duplicates.
Biggs says because South Carolina's response rate was so low during the last census count, they sent out a second round of forms as a precaution.
"Using this as a kind of reminder-type questionnaire and the thing I want to tell everyone, if they have already filled out their census survey and mailed it, just disregard this one," said Biggs.
His explanation doesn't sit well with Evelyn. She says to resend the forms is not a good way to spend taxpayers money.
"That's such a waste of our taxpayers money and we're in debt as it is. It's pathetic and now this waste," said Evelyn.
Biggs says it's not a waste, and that mailing duplicate surveys saves taxpayers money. "To go out and hire someone to come and knock on doors. So it's a rough estimate of numbers, 42 cents verses 57 dollars. It's a way for the government to save money in this process but ensure that everybody gets counted."
If you send in the second census form after mailing in the first one, officials say there is a process they have to take care of duplicate forms.
If you don't send in a census form at all, you can expect to see census takers at your door in the coming weeks.
