CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina toddler has died after his father backed over him in a sport utility vehicle.
Charleston County Chief Deputy Coroner Judy Koelpin says 22-month-old Victor Ayala Jr. of Charleston died of head trauma late Thursday afternoon at his home.
Investigators say the boy's father, Victor Ayala, was backing down the driveway with the driver's door open when the boy ran from the garage toward him.
Ayala tried to reach out to grab the boy, but fell from the SUV.
His son fell in front of the tire.
Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis says no charges have been filed and the investigation continues.
