ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina university president says it will likely be 2011 before a building damaged by fire last month reopens for classes.

The Herald of Rock Hill reported Winthrop University President Anthony DiGiorgio said Wednesday that Owens Hall probably won't be ready to reopen this fall.

A fire March 6 in the attic caused about $4.5 million in damage.

Winthrop is fully insured for the damage.

DiGiorgio says the cleanup essentially gutted the building.

Owens Hall is a three-story building with 18 classrooms that cost about $6 million and opened in 2007.

A building planned to be closed for renovations is being used for classes that would have been in the now-damaged building.
