Jurors reached a verdict late Friday afternoon in the federal trial of the former Latta mayor and his wife.

A federal jury found former mayor Lenneau Berry guilty on 60 counts of fraud. His wife Sheila was found not guilty on all charges.

Prosecutors say Berry embezzled more than $243,000 from the Social Security Administration.

The original indictment said Berry had his payroll checks put in his wife's name so that he could continue to get disability benefits.

He will be sentenced within 60 days. In the meantime he's free on bond.
