First responders from around the state are on the Grand Strand this week, learning how to handle natural disasters.
The conference in Litchfield Beach is being put on by the South Carolina Emergency Management Association. One key topic is the upcoming hurricane season, but emergency planners say that's not all.
The state is susceptible to just about any kind of disaster except a volcano.
"We take an all hazards approach to preventing or mitigating against types of disasters, whether it be a hurricane, an earthquake or even a terrorist incident and so we're really trying to look at the different ways we're trying to do our jobs better," said Derrec Becker, SC Emergency Management Association.
Becker says this kind of face to face contact is crucial to help first responders build teamwork, before a hurricane or other natural disaster strikes.
