There's a new push to go "green" when it comes to oyster shells.
The original Shucker's Raw Bar, along with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources launched its oyster recycling program today. Shucker's employees have been trained to separate oyster shells from restaurant garbage and place them in temporary containers.
That container will be be taken to a decontamination site and then returned to South Carolina shellfish grounds.
Andy Jennings with the SCDNR said the shells will be put to good use for oyster larva. "Which is a significant boost for our program because we try to collect all the oyster shells in South Carolina that are otherwise headed for a landfill or other improper disposal and put them back out on the beds."
You can also dump your oysters shells in the oyster trailer outside of the Shucker's Raw Bar on 3rd Ave North and Kings Highway.
