Hotels and motels along the Grand Strand are being encouraged to go green, in order to save money and the environment.
Today, the South Carolina Hospitality Association held a workshop to show Grand Strand hotel owners some conservation practices.
Doug O'Flaherty from the SCHA said it often requires just an extra couple of steps to improve energy efficiency and save electricity. "Everything from the way the windows are glazed as far as having a tint to them. Also, about pulling curtains, reducing the air conditioning or raising the temperature of the air conditioning of rooms when they're unoccupied."
O'Flaherty says consumers today expect hotels to use green practices.
Properties that meet certain standards can be certified by the Green Hospitality Alliance and then advertise that to gain customers.
