Friday the US Census Bureau held a job fair at the Myrtle Beach Mall. Dozens of people showed up looking for work. The bureau is hiring Census takers, crew leaders and crew leader assistants.

The base pay for workers is $11.50 an hour, plus mileage reimbursement.

Most of the temporary positions are for census takers, who will go door-to-door beginning May 1 to visit households that have not returned census questionnaires.
