Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard says Stephen Pelet, 25, from Coatsville, PA died around 1:30 this morning after a late night crash involving an ambulance in Murrells Inlet.

The accident happened around 10:30 p.m. last night.

Horry County Fire Rescue says its ambulance was stopped at the light on Highway 17 Bypass at Tournament Boulevard. It says the light just turned green when the car ran into the back of the ambulance.

The driver of that car, Pelet, was flown to Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. The two workers in the ambulance went to Waccamaw Medical Center to get checked out.

The ambulance was returning from Waccamaw Medical Center so the workers were the only people in the vehicle.

Highway Patrol is still investigating.
