Judge Stephen John sentenced 55-year-old Asghar Eliaderani to 5 years in prison, about an hour after jurors found the man guilty of involuntary manslaughter.

Eliaderani was on trial for murder in the strangling death of his wife, Farrah Abassi, at their Socastee convenience store in March 2008.

Prosecutors claim Eliaderani killed her during an argument.

Eliaderani's attorney claims his wife attacked him first with a knife and her death may have been the result of cardiac arrest.

The sentence is the maximum allowed by law.

NewsChannel 15's Joel Allen will have a full report tonight on NewsChannel 15 at 6.
