(AP) -- South Carolina U.S. Rep. Henry Brown plans to run for Berkeley County supervisor.

Brown said in a news release on Friday that he has decided to seek that post after serving more than a quarter-century in political offices at the local, state and federal level.

Brown told The Associated Press this week that a lot of people have asked him to run and the idea is resonating. He also said he loves working with people, especially those in his native Berkeley County.

The 74-year-old Brown announced in January he would not seek a sixth term in Congress in the state's coastal 1st Congressional District. He said he has gotten tired of the constant travel to Washington.
