MCCONNELLS, S.C. (AP) -- Most of the pit bulldogs linked to the arrest of three men on dogfighting charges last month have been euthanized.
The Herald of Rock Hill reported that 11 of the 13 dogs found by York County sheriff's deputies have been put down.
A veterinarian with York County Animal Control, Dr. Sonya McCathey, says the animals were in poor condition. McCathey says the other two dogs were given to a rescue group.
She says state law prohibits animal control from releasing a "dangerous animal" for adoption.
Three McConnells men face felony dogfighting charges after authorities say they found a fighting ring and the dogs behind their home.
The men signed over the dogs to animal control.
Thirty-nine-year-old Anthoni Orr, 74-year-old George Burris and 29-year-old Deon Burris are each charged with animal fighting and baiting.
