CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- They're popping corks on the South Carolina coast as an annual food and wine festival opens.

The BB&T Charleston Wine and Food Festival starts Thursday with a salute to Charleston chefs.

It's the fifth year for the festival that runs through Sunday.

It features a culinary village in the city's Marion Square with tents where patrons can sample food and wine from across the country.

On Sunday, the village is the site of cooking competitions.

The festival also features local chefs joining with national chefs to create unique five-course meals at various Charleston restaurants.
