Jenny Harrelson looks at the wrong address on her Census form
Nichols resident George Harrelson sat down Tuesday to fill out the Census when he noticed something wasn't right: his address.
"I said 'whoa, wait a minute.' You know, it had 7344 Greenview Loop, but it had Aiken, South Carolina," Harrelson said.
It also had an Aiken zip code.
The Harrelsons do live at 7344 Greenview Loop but in Nichols, and there isn't even such a street in Aiken or anywhere in the state that we could find.
"If I had filled it out without checking it, Aiken would've gotten credited with two more people," Harrelson said.
And perhaps more money. According to Census officials, each American who is counted equates into roughly $1,200 for his or her county.
"Aiken is probably a lot better off than my district which is pretty poor," said Harrelson's wife, Jenny.
Maxwell Biggs with the Census office in Florence said he was surprised to learn of the mistake, and he said it was the first he's heard.
Biggs said he will send someone to fix the mistake on Thursday, and he urges anyone who has similar problems to contact his office at 843-773-7872.
