Acting United States Attorney Kevin F. McDonald says Curtis William Wright, 43, of Darlington, pled guilty Friday in federal court in Florence, to possession of child pornography.
United States District Judge Terry L. Wooten accepted the plea and will sentence Wright at a later date.
Last July, a computer shop reported to the Darlington Police Department that Wright had rented a computer for a month, then returned it containing images of child pornography. Investigators obtained a search warrant for Wright's residence and found computer discs containing approximately 3,000 pornographic pictures of babies and young children. Wright was interviewed and admitted he had viewed and traded child pornography for the past five years.
Mr. McDonald stated the maximum penalty Wright can receive is a fine of $250,000.00 and imprisonment for ten years.
The case was investigated by agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, SLED, and the Darlington Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney William E. Day, II, of the United States Attorney's Office in Florence handled the case.
