Despite there being no teacher vacancies with the Horry County School District recruiters Saturday held a job fair. But the crowd was small.
In fact, the interviews wrapped up two hours ahead of schedule.
The district's recruiters said they were just focusing on critical needs positions, like middle and high school teachers in math and science.
The district froze dozens of positions last year but should those positions become available they want to be ready to hire.
"Throughout the summer and over the semester, we will lose some staff. Folks who move away or move on to other things. So, we're trying to be proactive and prepare for that," said Melissa Rutenberg, a recruiter for Horry County Schools.
Rutenberg says about 35 applicants interviewed at Saturday's session.
