A partnership between Donors Choose and the Waccamaw Community Foundation has made it easier than ever for Horry County Schools' teachers to get extra tools and supplies to support classroom projects.
DonorsChoose is a national organization whose website allows teachers to post information about what they need to support a project or initiative. Donors have an opportunity to review teacher postings and make financial contributions to the any of the projects they want.
Once a project reaches its funding goal, DonorsChoose delivers the materials to the school, along with a kit to enable the school to thank benefactors for their help. The Waccamaw Community Foundation, with support from the Knight Foundation, partnered with DonorsChoose to match contributions made to Horry County Schools' projects. If DonorsChoose collects $200 for a classroom project budgeted at $400, then the Waccamaw Community Foundation will match the contribution with another $200.
