CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Republicans seeking South Carolina's open 1st District congressional seat - a field which includes the son of a senator and son of a governor - are getting together on the coast.
They're attending a Charleston reception on Thursday in conjunction with the GOP gubernatorial debate.
The field includes Paul Thurmond, son of the late U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond, and Carroll Campbell III, son of the late Gov. Carroll Campbell.
Also running is Stovall Witte, a one-time chief of staff for incumbent U.S. Rep. Henry Brown, who is not seeking re-election.
Katherine Jenerette, who opposed Brown for the GOP nomination two years ago, is also running as is Isle of Palms councilman Ryan Buckhannon.
Three Democrats are also running for the seat.
