COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The Army is opening a new recruiting station in South Carolina's capital city.
Army spokeswoman Leslie Ann Sully says there will be a celebration Friday morning at the office in the Village of Sandhills in northeastern Columbia.
The station is one of five Army recruiting offices in the Columbia area. The new station commander is Sgt. 1st Class Neal McMillan.
The new station shifts an office to a growing suburb from a spot that was closer to the downtown area.
At the new center, Army Lt. Col. Charlester White will present Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott with a plaque to recognize his cooperation with Army recruiters.
Lott has worked to help military veterans find employment in law enforcement if they have experience in a military specialty that aligns with police work.
