(AP) -- South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is preparing to give his last state-of-the-state address.
Sanford will brief reporters on the speech's themes on Wednesday. A year ago, Sanford's star was rising as a potential 2012 GOP presidential contender.
But Wednesday's speech will come with expectations from some that he apologize to a statewide television audience for his affair with an Argentine woman. Legislators want him to talk about the state's biggest problems, including unemployment.
That Sanford is giving the speech at all may be a surprise. Last summer, calls rose for him to resign and then for him to be impeached. But Sanford survived the criticism.
College of Charleston political scientist Jery Cabot said Sanford is showing perseverance and stubbornness.
