COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Civil rights leaders are gathering at a South Carolina park to lay a wreath in honor of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
The NAACP is holding a ceremony Friday to lay a wreath in Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Columbia.
King would have turned 81 on Friday. The holiday honoring him is Monday.
That's when the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People celebrates the civil rights leader's life in a rally at the Statehouse.
The King Day at the Dome event also serves as an annual call for the removal of the Confederate flag from the capitol grounds.
