A&I Fire and Water Restoration donated 150 smoke detectors to the Georgetown County Fire Department Thursday.

Firefighters will pass them out to people in the county who can't afford to buy them.

Chief Mack Reed used today's donation as a reminder for all of us with smoke detectors. "Once a year, you can always go with a birthday or just the first of the year or a holiday at least once a year you need to replace the battery."

Officials say smoke detectors are even more critical now as people use alternative ways to stay warm.
