SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. (AP) -- Emergency responders from Shaw Air Force Base and Sumter in central South Carolina are teaming up to train for emergencies that would be involved in a military jet air crash.
Air Force officials say teams from the air base and the city of Sumter were training Thursday in the county's training site.
The exercise will simulate the crash of an F-16 fighter jet flown by pilots from the air base.
Air Force officials say it will help responders deal with the special threats involved in handling aircraft hazards.
The responders will include firefighters, local police and medical representatives from the Sumter County, Shaw Air Force Base and the city of Sumter.
A second exercise will be held later in the month.
