GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- A judge has refused to change a probation-only sentence for a man who pleaded guilty to plowing his speeding Maserati through a house, killing a 62-year-old man.

Circuit Judge James Williams Jr. made that decision Friday in Greenville during a hearing for John Ludwig.

Williams sentenced Ludwig to probation last year after the businessman pleaded guilty to reckless homicide. But Williams said he would reconsider that sentence after Solicitor Bob Ariail called it too lenient.

Frederic Bardsley was killed on April 25 after Ludwig's Maserati hurtled through a field, launched off an embankment and plowed into the back of Bardsley's home.

Ludwig was originally charged with murder. His attorneys say he lost control after swerving to miss several deer.
