Lumberton Police search for murder suspect

The Lumberton Police Department is looking for 20-year-old William Devone McCormick, who is wanted on a charge of murder.

Lt. Johnny Barnes says McCormick is responsible for the murder of Gilbert Hunt on December 27th. According to police, Gilbert, 26, Brandon Hunt, 18, were at a car wash on Martin Luther King Drive when two men approached and shot them.

Brandon Hunt was wounded in the shooting, but survived.

Barnes says McCormick is charged with 1st degree Murder, Attempted Robbery with Dangerous Weapon, and 2nd degree Kidnapping.

He says McCormick is believed to be in the Lumberton area and should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information on McCormick is asked to call the Lumberton Police Department at 910-671-3845.
