Tuesday, January 5th at 10:00am, a Pep Rally will be open to the public at Coastal Carolina University's Wall Auditorium to kick off the return of Extreme Makeover Home Edition to Horry County.

The public will have a chance to hear about project plans and get a behind-the-scenes look with the builders and show producers. Volunteers, sponsors and partners have also been invited to attend the rally. Attendees are asked to bring a canned food item.

Show producers have narrowed the choice to a few families and will surprise one lucky family with the news January 11th, when the build will start for Extreme Makeover's 20th episode and seventh season. A celebrity will participate on the build. The show will air in March.

This will be only the second time in the show's history that a family has been chosen in the same area.

In January 2007, Extreme Makeover built a house for Renee Wilson of Longs. Sterling Homes has been a builder for two other Extreme Makeover projects-the one in Longs and a build in New Orleans, the only other locale that has been selected multiple times.

Major sponsors and partners are the DuRant Agency, Environments for Living, Horry County Government, Horry Georgetown Home Builders Association, HTC, McNair Attorneys, Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce and Touchstone Energy Cooperatives.

In conjunction with the build, volunteers will conduct a precedent-setting food drive with a staggering goal of collecting 100 tons, or 200,000 pounds, of food (nearly 1 pound for each resident of Horry County). Sterling Homes is partnering with Horry County Government and the United Way of Horry County to do an Extreme Canned Food Drive to help restock food pantries countywide. Any business, club, organization or church group who wants to participate should call United Way at 347-5195.

The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting canned food donations for the drive until Jan. 14 at its visitor centers at 1200 N. Oak St., Myrtle Beach, and 3401 U.S. 17 Business S., Murrells Inlet. All six Horry County Walmart stores are also accepting canned goods.

Build Schedule

Jan. 11: Family is notified ("Door Knock")

Jan. 11: Build kickoff with "Braveheart" walk

Jan. 17: House reveal ("Move That Bus!")
