Myrtle Beach police arrested four men on weapons-related charges early New Year's morning.

Among the arrested are a teenager, two convicted felons and a 22-year-old with close to two dozen pending criminal charges.

Security guards at Club Groove on Broadway Street called police to report a man with a gun inside the club. Those guards, according to arrest warrants, detained four men until members of Myrtle Beach's Street Crimes Unit arrived to make the arrests.

Police found four handguns inside of a Cadillac that was parked at the club. Police said only one of the guns was properly stowed.

The charges and names of those arrested follow:

  • Dameion Alston, 19, Myrtle Beach: unlawful carrying of a pistol; pointing and presenting a firearm at a person
  • Calvin Ford, 22, Myrtle Beach: unlawful carrying of a pistol
  • Swava McCrea, 20, Myrtle Beach: unlawful carrying of a pistol; felon in possession of a firearm
  • Quintrel McCrea, 30, Myrtle Beach: unlawful carrying of a pistol; felon in possession of a firearm

At a bond hearing late Saturday afternoon, 15th Judicial Circuit Deputy Solicitor Jimmy Richardson told a judge that Calvin Ford and Swava McCrea posed a significant danger to the community.

According to Richardson, the solicitor's office has 19 pending warrants for Ford. Many of them stem from a string of armed robberies.

Swava, Richardson said, shot a man several times during a robbery but was never convicted of the shooting because of uncooperative witnesses. He was convicted of attempted armed robbery and spent a few months in prison.

Judge Clifford Welsh agreed with Richardson and denied bond for Ford and Swava McCrea.

"That's going to stop today," Judge Welsh said of Ford bonding out of jail so many times before.

"I think (Ford's) 'one more last chance' ended about 12 charges ago," Welsh told the court room.

Welsh set a $12,500 bond for Quintrel McCrea, whose previous record included an assault charge from ten years ago.

Dameion Alston's bail was set at $10,000, and Richardson said Alston did not have a prior criminal record.

All four men will make an initial appearance in circuit court on February 19, 2010.
